RoundBall

Think of Basketball, a game you have always loved.

You understand the importance of Defense; it wins ball games.

We also know that Offense is important; we won't beat anyone if we can't score points.

When you get the ball, you immediately realize there are three possible "choices",

and you have to react as quickly as possible while the opportunity is there.

Context: Your team is down one point, with five seconds left in the game.

What's your play?

Decision Time

Player 1

He's to your right, in position to shoot a field goal from about 18 feet. Nobody really guarding him.

Player 2

He's breaking towards the basket, looking for a contested layup. He's also a very good free throw shooter.

Player 3

You take a three point shot, after faking a pass right and left.

We know that only in hindsight will we understand if our choice worked. Many variables come into play, and we need to make the best decision we can with the information we have available at the time of the choice. Odds for this choice is probably better for #2 or #1.

Odds and Probability are important factors to consider.

The 123 method suggests we consider a few alternatives, then choose what we feel has the best odds of success.

When considering our investments, it's always prudent to consider options.

Having a few accounts is a strategy that allows us to take small, medium, and lotto type plays.

Focus on the higher probability ideas, but always be on the look out for that play that can turn into a life changing event.
